Extortion
« on: January 07, 2023, 06:52:43 am »
I received today an N4, notice to end your tenancy for non-payment of rent.

It says I owe $17.04.

Pay the amount by Jan. 20, 2023. This is called the termination dare.

Or

Move out by the termination date.

The rent paid and rent charged is incorrect.

I never received my last month's interest.

These owners constantly threaten me with evictions for over 4 years.

Any suggestions, this is very stressful.

I'm sure that others will chime in other suggestions, but to begin with, be sure to pay the $17.04 right away.  Paying this should nullify the eviction, but you should also confirm that the eviction proceedings won't accidentally proceed without your knowledge after you have paid – ask your landlord to provide a receipt, and to confirm that the eviction proceedings are terminated.

You should consider filing a "T2 - Application About Tenants Rights" with the landlord and tenant board.

Here's the T2 Form, and the T2 Information Booklet.

I know that lots of tenants have tried this and been dissatisfied with the results, to be successful at the LTB you should have solid evidence (photos, recordings of phone conversations, written documents like notices and letters they have given you, and keep a detailed log of the dates and times they harassed you) and research other similar cases, and maybe get a paralegal to help you.

Is there anyone else in your building who has faced similar harassment?  They could be an ally who could help, and your case would be stronger with multiple witnesses (victims).
