I saw this announcement from Toronto Hydro, and thought that it might be helpful to some of us here:


Effective March 1, 2024, the Ontario government increased the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) and Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) income eligibility thresholds.

OESP provides a monthly bill credit to qualifying customers, with the credit amount depending on how many people live in your home and your total household income. LEAP is a grant that helps those who are struggling to pay past-due bills or have received a disconnection notice, with your household income and the number of people living in your home determining eligibility.

The LEAP maximum grant amount has also increased.

The data shows both apartment types in Toronto saw rent jump by more than 20 per cent since this time last year.

Torontonians facing 'demoviction' are organizing to fight for their right to housing

Earlier this month, Toronto and East York Community Council unanimously approved a rental housing demolition application for 25 St. Mary St., which is just south of Bloor Street East between Bay and Yonge streets. The property’s owner, Tenblock, wants to construct two new towers that are 54 and 59 storeys in place of the current v-shaped structure on that site. City council is set to consider the matter at its May 10 meeting.

Ontarians rally against Ford government's new housing bill across the province

"Dozens of rallies took across the province from Windsor to Ottawa, including the GTA in Brampton, Etobicoke, Markham, Scarborough and in Orangeville outside the office of deputy premier Sylvia Jones, as well as at Bay and College streets in downtown Toronto.

The demonstrations are in opposition to the government’s controversial Bill 23, known as the More Homes Built Faster Act, which is part of the province’s goal of building 1.5 million homes over the next 10 years."

The cost of renting a one-bedroom condominium in Toronto is now up more than 20 per cent year-over-year, as higher borrowing costs leave some would-be buyers on the sidelines.

The latest data from the Toronto Region Real Estate Board shows that the average monthly cost for a one-bedroom condominium hit $2,481 in the third quarter of 2022, up from $2,269 last quarter and $2,061 in the third quarter of 2021.

The average rental cost for a two-bedroom condo was up 14.5 per cent year-over-year to $3,184.
