Hello, you are on the *new* "Toronto Renters' Forum" dot com website. This site went down in the summer of 2024, and the abandoned domain has been re-activated by volunteers who were, and who are generally nonplussed with the way the previous management took the system down ‒ ergo on short notice, with zero explanation, and with no follow-up.

I am a renter in the city and I was active on the previous system. For my part I *have* been trying to figure out what happened... for instance I tried to raise the issue at the November TAC meeting that was held over Zoom Communications software. I got acknowledgement from the chair, no action, and no meaningful replies.

More recently I spoke 1:1 with Laura Anonen for at least a half hour at the Health Fair last month, but I mostly stressed meetings that don't talk to each other, like when the North York planning dept. holds its "virtual" consultations, and members of city council jump back and forth around virtual and in-person town halls that dispense with any adherence to any rules of order. Arrrrgh! If you are at at something that purports to be a public meeting then you should be able to raise your hand, and in my opinion and your question - or even your attempt at a question - should be noted!

So the previous software used here was the "Simple Machines Forum"; the program in use now is an open source setup called "phpBB" - the people behind it are at https://phpbb.com

Nothing is carved in stone and I *definitely* need help with settings things up - like there should at least a basic shell - ahead of (hopefully) in-person meetings with interested parties. And then we may be able to arrive at a more... democratic decision.

At the moment I am using phpBB on this revived domain/site because I am more comfortable with it and it is cheaper than (say) Invision or Boardhost. I do have a test installation of another program, "MyBB" on-line that you are welcome to try.

I am not 100% wild about the default text and functions that come with a new phpBB installation, so you will likely see some changes in the next few weeks.

Thank you for your interest in the Toronto Renters’ Forum concept.
